The Seven Spirits

Okay, last blog I ended with the intent of further exploring Grace and Truth; however, as I sit here in this moment I am prompted to share a bit regarding Isaiah chapter 11:1-2: “There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse, and a branch from his roots shall bear fruit. And the Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord.” David was Jesse’s youngest son, from the...

“Grace and Truth”

Hello! Well, life abundant is happening, everyday. He promised and is not slack in His promises. With this amazingly packed summer, I find myself sitting down tonight with my next blog due in the morning. So not my typical MO; nevertheless, here we are so here we go. As blog time approaches, I ask Him what He would like to talk about /share. Last night I as readied for bed I heard “Grace and Truth,” and saw the verse in John 1:17: For the Law was given through Moses; grace and truth came...

Belief

One aspect of my walk with Jesus that I especially am fond of involves word exploration in scripture. He will draw my attention to His intentional use of words. This may be in word order, or words associated together, or the consistent application of a word or words across multiple passages. Recently, He reminded me of Romans 15:13: “Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you believe in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” I love that He...

Denial

In 2004 I helped open a private practice PT clinic. Through the first three years of this practice, as a business owner, business partner, boss, and practitioner, I learned what it meant to be a subject of the King. I entered a crucible of personal suffering, purposed to require the surrender of my will. Surrender so deep, so complete, and so incomprehensible to me – only to be experientially understood. He moved beyond mere possessions to my actions, hopes, motives, thoughts, dreams and...

Rest

One of the aspects of my walk with Jesus that I especially adore is His sense of humor. Years ago, I purchased a vehicle that had run flat tires. This was my first experience with this type of tire. One thing I learned is that they are expensive. I had been driving this vehicle for about a month when a roofing nail punctured one of the tires. From my prior experience with a flat, I knew that I could possibly have the flat repaired, rather than buying a new tire. So, I pursued this option first...

Trust

The first time I know that I know I heard the Holy Spirit speaking inside of me was early one Saturday morning while I was in physical therapy school. I had been praying about a particular circumstance in my life for several weeks. That particular morning, I rolled over, looked at the ceiling and said out loud, “what am I going to do?” Softly, but so clearly I heard, “Lean not on your own understanding.” I sat straight up in bed, then rushed into the kitchen where my host was preparing...

Destiny – Part 2

From before the foundations of the world, we each were known in the mind of God; who we would be, what unique qualities we would each possess and the place in His body we each were intended to fit. Jeremiah confirms this reality: “Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you; before you were born I set you apart.” (Jeremiah 1:5, NIV) Humanity is unique – set apart -- from all of creation in that he sits in a privileged place; offered the opportunity to enter into a personal relationship with...

Destiny – Part 1

Various fundamental questions that every human asks at some point in his or her life are: “What is my purpose? Do I have a destiny? If I do, then what is it and how do I find it?” Pursuing these questions in the religious culture invokes seemingly endless attempts to reconcile an all-knowing God – the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ – with the human will. We each have the gift of choice; a gift unique to human creation. Yet, in the minds of many people, to suggest each one of us...

Discipleship

I found this definition of discipleship online, and liked this phrasing: “Someone who follows the teachings, life, and aim of another until the person becomes like the master. Discipleship in the Christian sense is the process of making someone become like Christ. The disciple of Christ is to become like Christ in everything.” In our lives we each endure wilderness experiences. When viewed through the lens of Heaven’s Throne Room, we may see our circumstances through our Father’s eyes and...

The Trees

A number of years ago The Lord began to open up the reality of the two trees in the garden – The Tree of Life and The Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. For weeks everywhere I looked, seemingly everything that I heard related to these two trees. We first encounter these trees in Genesis chapter 2:9: “And in the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.” In Proverbs, chapter 3, Wisdom is described as “a tree of life to those who take hold of...
